  7.12.2002 - Hollyweird Tour - Show 2

This weeks show on 07/12 was a pre-recorded show.  Shock Jock attended Poison's Hollyweird Tour concert with Cinderella, Faster Pussycat and Winger.

The playlist has a 'Hollyweird Tour' theme. 2 each from the concert performers and another 2 from 2 bands associated with Cinderella.

The concert was great. Faster Pussycat was sloppy. Winger was note for note to their albums. The band had all 4 original members and included a 5th dude on guitar.  Cinderella was tight, hard and loud. Haven't skipped a beat since their haydays in the '80s.  All 4 original members are still in the band.

Poison put on a helluva show. They were awesome. They got the crowd into it. The stage show was just like back during the great times.  Guitar solo, drum solo and great stage effects, including pyrotechnics.

All bands of course played their hits exclusively.

The Vanity Plates of the Week for Show 2 are:

  • Shock Jock: CHK MGNT (chick magnet) - dude driving a beat-up Honda Del Sol. Get real dude, honestly.
  • Chesty LaRue: She explained the only acceptable personalized plates are those having to do with one's job, i.e. ASSMAN - proctology; DEADMAN - funeral director, etc.
Playlist:
  1. Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn
  2. Cinderella - Nobody's Fool
  3. Faster Pussycat - House of Pain
  4. Winger - Easy Come, Easy Go
  5. Poison - I Want Action
  6. Cinderella - Heartbreak Station
  7. Faster Pussycat - You're So Vain
  8. Winger - Miles Away
  9. Arcade - Screamin' SOS
  10. Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer

  7.10.2002 - WEBR Pulls Webcast

Due to the recent CARP decision by the Librarian of Congress, WEBR will be no longer broadcasting over the internet as of Monday, July 15th. Below is the email sent to all the DJ's from radio coordinator, Rachel Kennedy:

I'm very sorry to report that as of July 15, WEBR will stop our webcast.

Although we hope that the cut is temporary, that will depend on the amount of the royalties we will be required to pay, along with finding a way to be compliant with the laws that have recently been enacted. In order to sort out our very unique situation, we will be needing legal assistance & time to come to an agreement. Yes, we are public access and no, we haven't made a dime from our webcast. But the law doesn't care about that.

Here's what you can do:

  1. Please continue to write & call Congresspersons, the Senate Judiciary Committee, & tell your friends about the unfairness of the CARP decision. I've found that most people don't even know about the injustice that's happening with internet radio.
  2. Boycott major music labels. Drop a note to the RIAA & explain that as a music-lover, you find their actions rediculous & they are only hurting the music they are trying to promote. Help find a celebrity! This whole cause is on the lookout for any artists or prominent figures who are willing to stand up and help bring attention to the subject.
  3. Check in at www.saveinternetradio.org or www.kurthanson.com for the latest-breaking news & ideas. Check out the "SOS-Save our Streams" page that was set up for community webcasts. We will soon be added to their list.

I know we will have many online listeners who will be upset. We are upset too. Direct them to me or to the websites above to explain why we are being forced to take this action. We are lucky in that we have our primary audience - over 950,000 cable subscribers who can listen on TV. Other community webcasters have no other outlet. I'm hoping that we can come to a sensible solution & eventually resume webcasting.

Thanks for your cooperation-
Rachel

This sucks. Anyway, the show will go on on Cox Cable channel 37 in Fairfax County and Comcast cable channel 27 in Reston, VA.
